Policy on Ending Discrimination in the Workplace
Purpose:
Redeemer’s University is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and equitable working environment for all employees. As a Christian university founded on a mission mindset, our dedication to greatness is seen through both our spiritual and academic framework, guided by our motto: “Our Redeemer is strong.” While we proudly uphold Christian values, this policy underscores our commitment to ensuring that no individual is subject to discrimination on the basis of religion, gender, age, race, ethnicity, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law.
The purpose of this policy is to promote a workplace culture that is free from discrimination, where all employees are valued, respected, and afforded equal opportunities to succeed and contribute to the institution’s mission of excellence.
Scope:
This policy applies to all employees, faculty, contractors, and affiliates of Redeemer’s University, irrespective of their position or department. It covers all aspects of employment, including recruitment, hiring, promotion, training, compensation, benefits, and daily workplace interactions.
Policy Statement:
Redeemer’s University recognizes the inherent dignity and value of each individual and is committed to providing a work environment free from any form of discrimination. The university prohibits any conduct or actions that discriminate against an individual or group based on religion, gender, age, race, ethnicity, disability, marital status, nationality, or any other characteristic protected by law.
As a Christian university, Redeemer’s University upholds Christian values in all its practices. However, we recognize and respect the diverse backgrounds and perspectives of our employees and are committed to fostering an environment where all individuals, regardless of their beliefs, are treated with fairness, dignity, and respect. Discrimination or harassment of any form is not aligned with our spiritual values of love, compassion, and respect for all of God’s creations.

- Religious Inclusivity: While Redeemer’s University is rooted in Christian values, we honor and respect the religious beliefs and practices of all employees. Discrimination based on religious beliefs, practices, or lack thereof will not be tolerated. We encourage a workplace environment where individuals of all faiths, or no faith, can work harmoniously without fear of bias or exclusion
- Gender Equality: Gender discrimination in any form, including biases in hiring, promotion, pay, or treatment based on gender, is strictly prohibited. All employees, regardless of their gender identity, are entitled to equal opportunities, equal pay for equal work, and freedom from gender-based harassment.
- Age Equality: Age should never be a factor in how an individual is treated in the workplace. Redeemer’s University values the contributions of employees of all ages and prohibits age discrimination in hiring, promotions, assignments, and all other employment decisions.
- Disability Accommodation and Inclusion: We are committed to ensuring that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodations to perform their jobs effectively. Discrimination against individuals with disabilities in any employment practice is strictly forbidden.
- Racial and Ethnic Equality: Redeemer’s University is dedicated to promoting racial and ethnic diversity and ensuring that employees from all racial and ethnic backgrounds are treated equitably. Discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment based on race, skin color, nationality, or ethnic origin is prohibited.
Prohibited Conduct:
The following behaviors are prohibited under this policy:
- Discrimination based on religion, gender, age, race, ethnicity, disability,marital status, or any other protected characteristic.

- Unequal treatment in hiring, promotions, job assignments, or training opportunities based on discriminatory reasons.

Procedures for Reporting and Addressing Discrimination:
- Reporting Discrimination: Employees who believe they have experienced or witnessed discrimination should report the incident to their immediate supervisor, the Human Resources Department, or any designated representative responsible for managing employee relations. Employees are encouraged to report discrimination as soon as it occurs so that appropriate action can be taken promptly.
- Investigation Process: Once a report of discrimination is made, the Human Resources Department will conduct a confidential and thorough investigation into the matter. All parties involved will have the opportunity to provide their account of the events, and the investigation will be conducted impartially and without bias.
- Disciplinary Action: If the investigation finds that discrimination has occurred, Redeemer’s University will take immediate corrective action, which may include disciplinary measures such as reprimand, suspension, or termination of employment, depending on the severity of the offense.
- Protection from Retaliation: Employees who report discrimination or participate in investigations are protected from any form of retaliation. Retaliation against individuals for reporting discrimination is itself a violation of this policy and will result in disciplinary action.
Training and Awareness:
To ensure that all employees are aware of their rights and responsibilities under this policy, Redeemer’s University will provide regular training and awareness programs on topics related to discrimination, inclusivity, and respect in the workplace. These programs will highlight the importance of fostering a diverse and inclusive environment and will equip employees with the knowledge to identify and report discriminatory practices.
